Wire thread insert (Helicoils)

Wire thread inserts, also known as threaded thread inserts, are developed to protect non-ferrous metal threaded holes. It is a new type of internal thread fastener that forms a standard internal thread by screwing and fastening into the threaded hole of the connected part.

The spiral thread coil is made of cold-rolled stainless steel wire, and its shape is similar to a spiral spring, with high hardness and good surface roughness. To install the threaded hole of the wire thread insert, we need to use a special tap to tap. Installing the thread of the wire thread insert can improve the thread’s fatigue strength and reduce the thread’s wear and corrosion resistance, and the main purpose is to extend the life of the threaded hole. (Wire thread inserts are often used in plastic parts processed by CNC.)

Classification of Wire Thread Inserts (Helicoils) – by Material

According to the material, it can be divided into the following wire thread inserts:

Nitronic 60 thread inserts: (excellent wear resistance, no additional coating required, used in a vacuum environment).

304 stainless steel wire thread inserts: (good corrosion and wear resistance, suitable for use in conventional industrial environments).

316 stainless steel wire thread insert: (HRC43-50, high corrosion resistance, used in high-salt environments such as seawater).

Inconel X-750 thread inserts: (stable performance at ultra-high temperatures, commonly used in various accessories working in high-temperature environments such as pressure vessels and rocket engines).

Phosphor bronze thread inserts: (excellent conductivity, suitable for electrical products such as automotive battery pack accessories, non-magnetic, suitable for medical equipment).
